Vega is a one-year-old Lurcher with a Malinois background, and he is a unique blend of the two breeds. Typically, Malinois dogs have high prey drives, but Vega is an exception to the rule. His prey drive is relatively low compared to other dogs of his breed, which makes him a more manageable companion for potential adopters who might be concerned about those intense instincts. That said, he's still full of energy, and like many young dogs, Vega loves to play, explore, and engage with the world around him.
One of Vega's standout qualities is his friendly nature towards other dogs, particularly females. He enjoys their company and can get along well with them, but introductions should be done carefully to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe. With the right setup, Vega could thrive in a home with another female dog, giving him companionship and someone to play with.
However, Vega does have some separation anxiety and is nervous of new people showing some reactivity. He bonds deeply with his humans and doesn't like to be left alone for extended periods. This is something that will need some attention and patience from his new owner. With time, consistent training, and possibly the help of a behaviourist, Vega’s anxiety can be managed. He would benefit from a calm environment where he isn’t left alone too often, so a household where someone is home most of the day would be ideal for him. Behavioural support will be provided if Vega can be rehomed locally to the rescue.
Vega is also suited to homes with older children, around the age of 13 and above. He’s a loving dog but still young and energetic, so a household with teens or adults would suit his needs better than one with younger children who might not understand his boundaries.
He’s vaccinated, and ready to find a home that understands his unique combination of energy and sensitivity hes not yet neutered due to his insecurities however at the right time the rescue will cover the cost of this being done. For this reason Vega cannot be placed in a home with an unspayed female dog. With the right guidance and love, Vega has the potential to be a fantastic companion who will return all the care you give him tenfold. If you're looking for a dog with a gentle nature and the potential to grow into a more confident, well-rounded pet, Vega could be the perfect match for your family.
Vega does need secure fences of at least 6ft in height.
