Who we are

Welcome to Shad's Legacy

At Shad’s Legacy, we are dedicated to promoting humane behaviour towards animals, with a special focus on Shepherd and sled dog breeds. Our mission is to educate current and potential dog owners, prevent neglect and suffering, and provide essential care for dogs in need.

We strive to create a compassionate environment where every dog can thrive and find a loving forever home.

How it started

Our Story

Caroline and Lesley have dedicated over 15 years to volunteering with dog rescues, gaining extensive experience, particularly with shepherd and sled dogs. In 2021 they decided to combine their knowledge and passion by starting their own rescue organisation. Initially, they envisaged helping just one or two dogs at a time but the overwhelming need quickly made that goal impossible to maintain.

Witnessing the large number of dogs facing euthanasia in UK dog pounds they shifted their focus to rescuing those dogs who would otherwise be put down, determined to save as many lives as they could.

ZARA
Caroline and Lesley first heard about Zara at the pound, where they were picking up two dogs. The staff couldn’t help but mention Zara, and when they met her, they instantly fell for her cheeky, mischievous face. Her nickname, “the pocket rocket,” was earned through her boundless energy and her love for playing chase.

Zara was quick to show off her playful nature, darting around the field with a “catch me if you can” attitude. Initially, she went to her new home as a foster dog, but it didn’t take long for her foster dad to realise he couldn’t imagine life without her. Within a week, he made the decision to make Zara a permanent part of the family. Now, Zara is living her best life—enjoying plenty of walks, exciting adventures, and splashing around in the river. It’s a perfect life for a dog who once was unloved in the pound.

"Zara became our family around 8 months ago. She is playful, loving and cheeky and we couldn't be happier. Shad's Legacy do wonderful work."
